About
A warm, mythic, voice with a range from the "guy next door" to a booming wizard, and everything in between.
Looking for the right voice to make your project sound MYTHIC? Hi, I'm Kurtis Derry, a voice actor and narrator with a warm, resonant tenor that sits naturally in "guy next door" territory: friendly, genuine, and easy to trust. But when your project calls for a bit more, that same voice drops into deep, booming, mythic territory. So whether your project calls for a real conversation or an epic wizard mentor, I can bring it to life with studio-quality voice over.
Why work with me? I specialize in epic, character-driven fantasy and sci-fi voice over as well as warm, conversational commercial reads. Whatever your project is, I'll use my vocal talents to bring it to life. My professional home studio delivers broadcast-ready audio, and with live direction available, I can deliver faster than a wizard can cast Magic Missile.
I'm continually leveling up my craft by training with the likes of Melissa Moats, Brent Mukai, Jack de Golia, and Dustin Ebaugh at The Voice Actors Studio for 2 years. I'm also an active member of Tara Strong's Voicelings, Jesse Carroll's VoiceOver School, and Joe Zieja's Voice Acting community.
What I deliver:
• Fantasy & sci-fi audiobook narration with distinct character voices for a full-cast feel
• Character & animation voice over: heroes, mentors, creatures, comic relief, villains
• Epic D&D, TTRPG & actual-play NPCs, monsters, and dungeon-master narration from a longtime player who knows the table
• E-learning, corporate & explainer narration that's clear, warm, and never robotic
• Authentic, conversational commercial reads that don't sound like someone shouting
Why clients book me:
• Professional home studio with broadcast-ready audio
• 24-hour turnaround as standard
• Easy to direct, quick with revisions
• 100% human voice. No AI, no cloning, ever.
My vocal style:
Friendly and conversational. Guy next door. Cool uncle. Everyman. Corporate and professional, if that's what you fancy. Storyteller by the fire. Characters like wizards, kings, mentors, scoundrels, and creatures great and small. And a few impressions in the back pocket when the project calls for it: Kermit the Frog, Winnie the Pooh, Stitch, and a Mark Hamill Joker style villain.
My studio:
Equipped with a Rode NT2A into an Audient iD14 MKII, recorded in a purpose-built, acoustically treated booth. Edited with Logic Pro using iZotope RX for clean, quiet, client-ready files. Set up and ready for live-directed sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and more.
My background:
I found my love of voice over reading books aloud to my kids when they were younger, and realized that bringing the stories and characters to life was my passion. Like many others, though, voice over took a back seat to working full-time, raising a family, and navigating being an adult. Through 15 years as a UX designer for Fortune 500 companies, I kept feeling the pull back to it. That career gave me a working fluency in the corporate world: creative briefs, stakeholder feedback, iterative revisions, deadline-driven delivery, and messaging that emotionally connects and tells a brand's story. It's an advantage I bring to everything I voice, whether that's a corporate narration, an explainer, a commercial, or a fantasy epic. So after a long career designing software experiences, I traded pixels for performance, and I haven't looked back.
When I'm not in the booth, you can find me every other week getting lost in another realm with my Dungeons & Dragons group, honing my storytelling and character skills playing everything from a timid harengon rogue to a chaotic evil paladin. Sometimes I'm stopping the forces of evil, and sometimes I'm assisting them. I'm also an avid maker: I've built everything from dressers and chairs to Muppet-style puppets that look suspiciously like friends and family. If we ever meet, ask about my various muppet impressions.
Whether you need a far-off world brought to life, polished corporate authority, an authentic conversational read, or a character-driven performance, I'll work with you to connect with your audience and bring your project to life.
Not ready to book yet? Tap the heart to add me to your Favorites so I'm easy to find for your next project, and if an audition of mine hits the mark, a Like goes a long way (even if you go another direction this time).
