TV was not for me.

I launched my media career in the 1980s, looking to find fame and fortune in television sports.

For the better part of 12 years, I carved out a nice career for myself, getting a chance to cover championship games in football and basketball, as well as reporting live from the World Series.

Along the way, my work was recognized by my peers with numerous awards and accolades, but there was something missing.

It didn’t feel real.

Too much of my TV existence was being manufactured by paid consultants whose obsession with style came at the expense of substance. It was all about looking and sounding a certain way, according to tried and true focus group approved formulas.

After a dozen years of playing their game, I finally reached my breaking point and walked away.

That’s when I stumbled across a shining oasis in the media desert - radio.

From day one on the air I felt liberated, energized, and most important - authentic.

For the past 26 years, I’ve tried to incorporate those attributes into everything I do professionally, including my own talent platform - Jeff Harkness Voices.
